Celebrity Bake Off 2021 baker Tom Allen nearly had fridge fall on top of him in tent

Celebrity Bake Off 2021 contestant Tom Allen has revealed that he almost experienced a major mishap while filming when struggling to take something out of the fridge, describing the debacle as a ‘nightmare’.

This spring, comedian Tom is swapping his Extra Slice presenting hat for an apron as he tries his hand at impressing judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with his baking skills.

Ahead of his appearance on Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer alongside a line-up of other famous faces, Tom appeared on The Graham Norton Radio Show this morning, where he admitted that the competition was far more ‘difficult’ then he assumed it would be.

‘Having spent so long making fun of the bakers, they finally gave me my opportunity to shine in the tent to do some baking and actually be a contestant,’ Tom said.

‘Guess what, it’s actually really difficult! I didn’t realise, I just thought it was making a few tarts, but no, it’s really hard.’

Tom explained that he found it ‘really difficult to make a cake in like two hours when they come round to chat to you at the worst possible moments’, adding that ‘it was awful’.

But one of the most challenging moments came when the bakers were tasked with making ‘something frozen’, and his creation ‘got stuck in the fridge’.

‘I was trying to wrestle with it, a fridge at one point nearly fell on top of me,’ the comedian recollected.

‘It was a nightmare. The whole thing was a nightmare. But it was fun. It was super fun.’

Good to know that Tom still enjoyed himself, despite his near-accident!

During an appearance on The One Show on Friday evening, The Voice UK coach Anne-Marie told hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott about a simple baking error she made when preparing for her time on Celebrity Bake Off.

The pop singer explained that she’d been practising at her family home when her sister pointed out that she was using readymade cake mix as part of her ingredients, when on the show she’ll have to make it from scratch.

‘I was like, “It’s the cake mix.” And she was like, “You have to make it from scratch – you can’t go to the Bake Off with already-made cake mix”,’ the musician said, looking embarrassed.

‘So yeah, that’s how it started, and it kind of finished quite similar to that.’

Celebrity Bake Off 2021 is due to air this spring.
