Colin Hanks among stars criticizing Kim Kardashian over 'bragging'

Celebrities have criticized Kim Kardashian for 'insensitive' and 'unbelievably awful' social media posts that showed her enjoying a million-dollar trip to Marlon Brando's private island for her 40th birthday amid the pandemic.

Colin Hanks responded, 'let them eat cake' while Ronan Farrow joined fans and brands including the New York MoMA in creating memes to mock the reality star's caption where she claimed to be feeling 'humbled'.

But British rocker Peter Frampton advised her that sharing of images of a luxury trip with family and friends was ill-timed: 'Are you that insensitive you don't realize this is not what the majority of people during the worst covid spike yet want to hear? People are going to food banks not private islands.'

Kardashian received an overwhelming amount of backlash online after bragging about the lengths she went to make sure she could enjoy a face mask-free tropical vacation to The Brando in Tahiti's Tetiaroa atoll.

The Brando only has 35 villas, which rent for up to $20,000 a night. A group of fewer than 30 people attended.

Kim Kardashian has been criticized for sharing snaps from her private island trip with family. The backlash didn't deter Kardashian as she continued to post snaps from the trip on Wednesday. She captioned one post: 'Girls just wanna have sun'

To date, more than one million people around the world have died from the coronavirus, with nearly 43 million cases accounted for since COVID-19 began spreading in January.

Kardashian's own home state of California has tallied more than 17,000 deaths, and Los Angeles County is still in a top lockdown due to surging numbers.

The star admitted the entire family received 'multiple health screens' before embarking on the trip, which the New York Post reports was made possible by Kim chartering an 88-seat jet which flew out of LA last week.

A source told the Page Six: 'The group was limited to Kim’s closest family and friends. Everyone on the trip was repeatedly tested for COVID before they left in the middle of the night on a private Boeing 777.

'Once on the island they had lavish dinner after dinner, spa treatments and hikes through the nature sanctuary. There was no expense spared. Everyone was banned from posting on social media by Kim to ensure her privacy.'

Followers were completely caught off guard by Kim's long-winded post detailing the extravagant affair.

She wrote: '40 and feeling so humbled and blessed.

'There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.

'For my birthday this year, I couldn't think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today.

'Before COVID, I don't think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.

'After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.

'We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.'

Some famous faces, such as Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner, shared the seemingly tone deaf post with their Twitter followings and made their feelings known.

'Vote them out,' tweeted Eichner, 42, referencing to Kim's husband Kanye West's failed bid for the presidency.

The pictures showed Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner and boyfriend Corey Gamble on the island with her children Kendall Jenner, plus Rob, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian. Family friend Lala Anthony was also on the trip and was Scott Disick and his children with Kourtney.

3rd Rock From The Sun star Kristen Johnston was clearly unsatisfied with Kardashian's lengthy justification for throwing a birthday bash amid a global pandemic.

'Way to read the room, Kim,' wrote Johnston, 53, who rarely holds back on Twitter when it comes to her opinions regarding the pandemic and the upcoming election.

Kardashian also did not have the support of Better Call Saul's Michael McKean, who took a hilarious jab at the over the top extravagance of the star's birthday shindig.

'And how was the swan cooked?' quipped the 73-year-old actor, who chose to share the portion of Kim's Twitter spree that discussed all of the activities her and her tight knit family partook in.

The Goodbye Girl actress Quinn Cummings did not holdback as she lambasted Kim for catering to her own needs, instead of donating the money spent on her out of this world birthday party to 'organizations helping terrified Americans'

'You could have done all this and stfu about it. Or, y'know, donated the money you were going to spend. Or all of the tests you used. This is not being 'humbled,'' concluded Payne.

Family Guy star Ralph Garman joked about how thankful he was that Kardashian 'got a well-deserved break' from her already luxurious life.

'Thank God you got a well-deserved break. We all know how hard this year has been on the obscenely rich and obsessively narcissistic,' tweeted Garman.

'Girl who is 'us'???!! And 'a simple luxury?' This is almost as bad as when she hopped on here a few years back to tell us she just found out about racism,' tweeted Glenn.

Radio Host Kristie Graybill ruthlessly summed up what she found the overall message of Kardashian's Twitter thread to be.

'Dear poor people, Sorry you're poor but I'm rich and can afford not to stress about millions of people dying,' began Graybill, who took on Kardashian's persona for the tweet.

'Anyway- sucks to be poor lol not me tho. Here is my humble private island pics for you poor people. Xoxo Kim west,' she concluded, referencing to the slew of photos Kim shared from the week-long trip.

Musician AJ Rafael was so stunned by Kim's post that he, at first, 'thought this was a parody.'

'Hello lowly citizens of the world, you are going through a lot right now but i'm *humbly* reminding myself that i actually don't have those problems #blessed,' wrote AJ in an attempt to mock what he perceived Kim's perspective on the situation to be.

Author Wajahat Ali wondered 'why' Kim felt the need to share information about her unattainable birthday getaway amid such national unrest.

'The rich are their own tribe,' he began. 'Why post the insanity while people are on lockdown and there's a surge in coronavirus that is killing Americans.'

The backlash didn't deter Kardashian as she continued to post snaps from the French Polynesia trip on Wednesday. She captioned one post: 'Girls just wanna have sun.'
