WARRINGTON has been plunged into a Tier 3 lockdown EARLY - as Army personnel are drafted in to help combat coronavirus outbreak in high risk areas.
Council leader Russ Bowden said it was the "necessary and proportionate" to put the region into Tier 3 after 15 people died over the past three days.
Local leaders in Warrington agreed a deal for the new measures today, with the tightened rules to come into force just after midnight on Thursday morning.
It comes as the military was deployed to Liverpool on Friday to help identify local sources of infection and provide assistance to health officers.
As of Friday, the military was carrying out 32 tasks under the official military aid to the civil authorities (Maca) mechanism allowing the Government and local authorities to formally request assistance from the Armed Forces.
