BORIS JOHNSON has announced a new national lockdown this evening as the UK's coronavirus caseload officially passed the one million mark.
Boris Johnson introduced new nationwide curbs that will come into effect by the end of the week - and last until December 2.
It comes as scientists predicted NHS beds will become overwhelmed with Covid patients as the overall UK total of cases reached 1,011,660 on Saturday.
The nationwide lockdown is believed to be a measure to help Brits have as normal a Christmas as possible.
Pubs, bars and restaurants will be closed for a month under the clampdown — which the Government is determined to avoid calling a new lockdown.
