A COVIDIOT was fined by cops for attempting to visit all 92 football league grounds in a road trip during lockdown.

Lincoln police revealed the baffling news after they pulled over a footie fan near the town's Cathedral yesterday.

A system check had flagged the vehicle which was registered outside of Lincolnshire.

And when cops approached the driver to ask why he was not at home, the man from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, left officers bewildered with his reply. 

Sgt Mike Templeman wrote on Twitter: “The vehicle was stopped as it was registered in Chesterfield.

"The driver stated he was having a road trip to football grounds around the country having left Chesterfield yesterday.

"You simply couldn’t make it up.

“Covid-19 penalty ticket issued along with the strongest words of advice.”

Lincolnshire locals slammed the footie fanatic’s road trip as the pandemic continues to rage across the country.

“Not only will you get fined but also run the risk of spreading the virus.

“Some people should really wobble their heads a little bit more against a wall.”

Nick Hudson added: “That’s crazy, it’s people like this who are the reason why the covid situation is so bad in this country.

“Not only that but they then put you guys in additional risk having to deal with them. Stay safe out there Tempo.”

Another wrote: “Honestly, we will soon be on tier 7, 8, 9 and 10 if people like this carry on. Jeez.”

As England endures its third national lockdown, Brits have been told to stay at home with non-essential shops forced to close and families unable to see each other under the current restrictions - which could last until the end of March.
