A witness said his mum was seen "crying and in pieces" at the scene last night.
A woman told MyLondon: "There was blood everywhere. It looked he was cut in the leg and they tried to stop the bleeding.
"My husband was outside for 45 minutes and said his stepdad showed up and said he was 22.
"The mum was here crying and she was in pieces."
It comes as a 24-year-old man was stabbed shortly after 3pm today less than two miles from last night's horror.
He has been rushed to hosptial with non-life threatening injuries.
Horrified neighbours have told how they desperately tried to save him.
Met Police said there was no information to suggest that all the incidents, which are still being investigated, were linked.
Cops also confirmed that a "group of men" were at the address before the fatal stabbing took place.
Samuel Henningham, a builder who lives in the block of flats near where the murder victim was stabbed, said: "I came to the window and saw a guy run inside.
“I was inside my place and my daughter said 'something is going on downstairs,' so another guy rushed out to try and assist him."
The 69-year-old added: "He was lying on the floor and he was bleeding. I think he’d been stabbed somewhere in the groin area.
“My daughter threw a towel down to the other guy so he could wrap it. He was still bleeding until the police arrived. It took them about 20 minutes."
One eye-witness said: "I saw him lying on the ground.
“He was in a bad way, but he was alive, he was moving. “I’m a big man, he’s a little boy. These little boys think they’re Billy Big Bananas. I tried my best to help him.
“I work in a care home so when I heard someone had been stabbed I went into the bathroom and picked up whatever swabs and stuff I had.
“I saw lying there on the floor and by time I got there, the police arrived and started to dress his wounds. Some of these youngsters, what can you do?”
Another witness, who was at the scene before emergency services arrived, said that the 22-year-old victim was "fading away."
They said: "Because it was dark I didn’t even notice the pools of blood. It was only afterwards I realised there was actually a reasonable size puddle of blood.
"The person...his life was fading away, do you know what I mean? It was going. When we got there he was still conscious, he was moving.

“In the space of a couple of minutes he was fighting for his life."
There were three injuries on his left thigh, according to the witness.
Launching the murder investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Martin Thorpe from Specialist Crime said today: “We know that a group of males attended the address and an altercation occurred which resulted in the victim receiving a fatal stab injury.
“A young man has lost his life in a senseless act of violence, leaving his family devastated. If you can help us find who is responsible for this attack, then I would urge you to get in touch immediately.”
The first of last night's attacks happened at 6.56pm on Chapman Road which left one injured.
Around 20 minutes later, four men in their 20s attended a local hospital - believed to be Croydon University Hospital - with "stab and slash" wounds, police said.
At 8.10pm, police were called to the scene of an attack on Wisbeach Road where one man died at the scene after paramedics desperately tried to save him.
Two others at the scene had stab wounds - although only one was taken to hospital.
Less than an hour later, at 8.51pm, two more males presented themselves to a local hospital with stab wounds.
The final attack at 9.12pm left one man injured on Dingwall Road. Police arrested one man on suspicion of GBH and also cuffed the wounded male as well.
Detective Superintendent Nicky Arrowsmith said: "Sadly, tonight we have seen a number of needless and completely abhorrent violent altercations, including one that has tragically resulted in a loss of life.Forensic teams were seen at a block of flats on Wisbeach Road this morningCredit: London News Pictures The five knife attacks happened in just over two hours within the same London boroughCredit: London News Pictures Two men were arrested after a knife attack on Dingwall Road near East Croydon train stationCredit: Google Maps
"Officers will be on patrol throughout the night across the South Area Command Unit, with additional resources from the Violent Crime Taskforce and Territorial Support Group deployed to deter and prevent any further violence.
"A Section 60 Order granting police additional stop and search powers is in place across Croydon, until 8am on Saturday February 6.
"I urge anyone who has information that could help police to assist us as we work to investigate these incidents to speak to us as soon as you can.”
Gold Commander for London this weekend, Ade Adelekan, said: “While work continues to investigate the motivation and circumstances of these four incidents, I can say that they are being treated as isolated.
“However, that does not make this series of violent incidents any less shocking and I understand that residents in and around the areas where these incidents occurred will be rightly concerned.
“Extra resources were deployed last night and will continue to be deployed over the weekend."
Knife crime is the scourge of London's streets with the city suffering more stabbings per capita than any other UK region.
A shocking ONS report last July showed that around a third (34 per cent) of all UK knife offences were recorded in London.
Altogether, there were 179 offences per 100,000 population in the capital while there was an average of 82 offences per 100,000 population in England and Wales.
London's knife explosion has fuelled the city's highest murder rate in more than a decade with 149 people killed in the capital in 2019 - 90 in stabbing attacks.
Areas in south and east London such as Lambeth, Croydon, Newham and Hackney have become plagued by gangs carrying blades.
In England and Wales, knife crime nationally has risen 49 per cent in just 10 years.Four men attended a local hospital - believed to be Croydon University Hospital - with "stab and slash" wounds, police saidCredit: (c) UkNewsinPictures The Met said there was no information to suggest that all the incidents, which are still being investigated, were linkedCredit: UKNIP Two men are fighting for their lives in hospitalCredit: UKNIP
