JOE Biden unveiled a $1.9trillion coronavirus package with $1,400 stimulus checks on Thursday.

As many Americans hope for a new wave of emergency Covid payments, it raises the question: When would a third round of stimulus checks go out?

As Biden is inaugurated on January 20, Democrats are set to hold a majority in both the House and Senate.

This could lead to a package being passed quickly, sending out the money and directly into Americans' hands within weeks.

However, there's multiple factors that could cause a hold up for stimulus checks.

In order for Democrats to have the majority in the Senate, Georgia will first need to certify runoff election results.

On Friday night, the Secretary of State's Office showed that all 159 counties had certified results – but now Georgia must certify state totals by January 22, WXIA-TV reported.

Once results are certified and Democrats officially hold the majority, Biden's $1.9trillion package could be passed within days or weeks if it's the first item on the table for Congress.

However, the impeachment of Donald Trump may take priority, after the House voted 232 to 197 on Wednesday to charge him with inciting an insurrection following the US Capitol riots.

Some members of Congress had pushed for current Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to fast-track the process and call Congress back for a session before their next scheduled meeting on January 19.

In a statement, however, McConnell noted that the impeachment process can take time.

"The Senate has held three presidential impeachment trials," McConnell wrote.

"They have lasted 83 days, 37 days, and 21 days respectively.

"Even if the Senate process were to begin this week and move promptly, no final verdict would be reached until after President Trump had left office. This is not a decision I am making; it is a fact," the GOP Senator added.

If the Senate prioritizes impeachment proceedings, after the inauguration, it could be weeks before a stimulus is even on the table.

Even if the package is the first order of business, it may be met with pushback from members of Biden's own party, who are demanding full $2,000 checks.

Biden had pushed for $2,000 payments.

The $1,400 proposal is seen as a supplement to the $600 signed into action by Donald Trump in late December, brining a the total payout up to $2,000.

The five key takeaways from Biden's new stimulus plans

Joe Biden revealed a shiny new Covid aid plan on Thursday evening. Here's the top five changes he has suggested:

A third $1,400 stimulus check for eligible recipients $400 per week enhanced unemployment aid $15 per hour minimum wage Child tax credit boost to $3,600 for children under six and $3,000 for kids between six and 17 Subsidized health insurance premiums for those that lost employment plan

Progressive Democratic Reps, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Cori Bush of Missouri, have both slammed Biden's proposal, saying $1,400 is not equal to $2,000.

Personal finance and business forecasting company Kiplinger noted that a standalone stimulus bill could pass quicker than a full package.

Biden's $1.9trillion plan includes may elements – including an additional $300 to $400 per week in unemployment, a $15 minimum wage, and funds for vaccine rollout.

In a best-case scenario, a package would be passed in the House and Senate in late January to early February.

Biden would then have to sign it into action.

With the amount of time Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has said it takes for the IRS to begin rollout, this mean payments could be sent out around a week later.

This would start with direct deposit and then with paper checks and prepaid debit cards to follow.
