A MAN has died after he was knifed in a horror attack near a Crawley train station.

The 24-year-old was fatally injured during an assault near Three Bridges in West Sussex late on Tuesday night.

Cops with Sussex Police are now hunting the killer, who they say was known to the victim.

The scene was quickly cordoned off while forensic teams carried out fingertip searches late into the night

Sussex Police said on Twitter: "Sadly, a man has died after sustaining critical injuries in an assault in Russell Way, Crawley, on Tuesday evening.

"We are searching for a suspect known to the victim, but are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the Skyfall block of apartments in Three Bridges at 11pm last night.

Social media reports suggested that helicopters were circling overhead above Downland Drive and Brighton Road

A social media user told of a stabbing on Twitter last night, writing:  "Reports of a stabbing in three bridges, Crawley by the Paymaster roundabout."

Another resident messaged officers to ask about the heavy police presence, adding: "The helicopter and several sirens and police there are quite worrying."

It comes as Crawley Borough Council has renewed an order tackling anti-social behaviour.

The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) prohibits alcohol related nuisance and anti-social behaviour in the town.

Councillor Brenda Smith said: “The current PSPO has been valuable in enabling the police and our community wardens to apply fines when appropriate. 

“It makes sense to continue implementing this PSPO to ensure Crawley is a safe place for our residents and visitors to enjoy.”
