BRITAIN has been hit by heavy downpours and gusts this weekend ahead of a sunny interlude, according to the Met Office.
Winds of up to 70mph are whipping their way to British shores and are expected to hit Ireland on Wednesday morning.
The winds are the remnants of Hurricane Epsilon, which is marked as a Category 3 Hurricane and the second major hurricane to form in the Atlantic this month.
The news comes as the Met Office launched a new tool to help planners prepare for further extremes of rainfall and high temperatures.
It warns that wild weather will become the "new normal" in the future and will place increasing challenges on health, infrastructure and services.
