What is Tier 4?

With coronavirus cases continuing to rise and the upcoming Christmas break, stricter rules have been implemented.

This has seen the Christmas bubbles cancelled for a number of areas in the new Tier 4 restrictions.

A third national lockdown had been a possibility, but an extra - and tougher - Tier 4 has been introduced for the worst-affected areas in England.

What areas are in Tier 4?

London and the South East are among those to be affected by the new Tier 4 restrictions as the new Covid strain decimates the country.

The mutant variant is said to be 70 per cent more contagious than the current strain.

HERE is the full list of areas in Tier 4.

Surrey (excluding Waverley)
The boroughs of Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth, Rother and Hastings
All 32 London boroughs and the city of London.
Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes, Luton, Peterborough
Essex (excluding Colchester, Uttlesford and Tendring).

What are the Tier 4 rules?

Brits under Tier 4 restrictions will be similar to the second national lockdown.

Travel outside of Tier 4 areas is not permitted, except for work purposes - if you cannot work from home, while going abroad is heavily discouraged.

As in Tier 3, pubs and restaurants will remain closed as will gyms and hairdressers.
